David Schachter’s practice focuses on patent law in the chemical, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries. He prepares and prosecutes US and international patent applications, manages patent portfolios, and advises clients on invalidity, noninfringement, patentability, and freedom-to-operate matters. David’s experience spans a broad array of technologies, including antibody design, gene therapy, radiotherapeutics, CRISPR technologies, polymer-based therapeutics, small molecules, and diagnostic platforms.
Prior to joining McNeill PLLC, David practiced as a patent agent in the patent prosecution group at Cooley LLP, and as a technical advisor in the intellectual property litigation group at Fenwick & West.
David began his IP career as an intern at Cornell University’s Center for Technology Licensing, where he drafted provisional patent applications and conducted prior art analyses for university inventors.
David’s scientific background spans pharmacology, biomedical engineering, and chemistry. During his doctoral studies at Weill Cornell Medical College, his research centered on developing monoclonal antibodies to probe amyloid-beta cleavage sites implicated in Alzheimer’s disease and identifying peptides that modulate Notch-dependent cancer signaling. His master’s research at Rutgers University explored surfactant toxicity related to metallic nanoparticles, and as an undergraduate at Yeshiva University, he studied biodegradable polymers for drug delivery applications.
